EDC Valet - Area A White Oak - NEW

NEW

Manufactured in the United States from solid white oak
timber, the Area A Valet is a useful desktop organizer that honors the heritage of the intelligence community.

Named for part of an Office of Strategic Services (OSS) training facility in what is now Prince William Forest Park in rural Virginia, near Marine Corps Base Quantico, the Area A Valet is designed to handle essentials, keys, folding blades, watches, straps, EDC tools, and more.

Standing a full inch in height (2.54 CM), the Area A Valet has four recessed compartments, each engraved with topographical contours taken from period maps of the former OSS training facility at Prince William Forest Park.

The central compartment reveals an engraved W.O.E. Spearhead insignia, which was inspired by the spearhead adopted by the OSS upon its creation in 1942. Measuring eleven inches (28 CM) long, nine inches (22.9 CM) wide, and impressively stout at 1 LB 9 OZ (708 G) the Area A Valet was designed to bring order to your workspace while honoring those who came before.

White oak is known for its strength and durability, meaning the Area A Valet is a custom tool that can be passed down, earning a unique patina as it ages. Like all handmade wooden crafts, each valet will show individual variations in color, grain, and texture, meaning no two are exactly alike.

What Is “Area A”?

Lacking an official name for secrecy’s sake, the OSS training facility at what is now Prince William Forest Park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and repurposed for paramilitary training after the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Remotely located and complete with cabins and other infrastructure, the facility was ideal for the nascent intelligence service’s requirements, serving as a key training ground for OSS agents from 1942 to 1945. To support the broad curriculum required for WWII-era intelligence collection and covert action, the facility was divided into two parts.

Area A was dedicated to paramilitary tactics, including guerrilla warfare, advanced weapons training, and demolition. Area A was also home to the infamous “House of Horrors”, an early live-fire shoot house used for simulated combat scenarios.

Area C was dedicated to training agents in all manner of communications equipment, techniques, and procedures.

What does a wooden tray have to do with WWII-era espionage and the OSS? At W.O.E., every custom tool we make comes with a history lesson, and everything we do is intended to celebrate the rich history of our community.
